The water is rising

Yes, it has been a very long time since our last update. All is fine. Actually all is pretty darn good. I'll try to get an update soon of our life and times. For now, I'm trying out a new blog update app on our new iPad. And passing along a quick update about the big impending flood.

Once again we are thankfully far enough from the river to have any water concerns at our home. As long as the electricity stays on (so our sump pump, which drains every few minutes) we will be fine. Our area could get a lot of rain this weekend, which we really don't need.

The Red River of the North is expected to crest early next week, potentially in the 40-41 feet range. Flood stage is 18 feet. No one gets too nervous until we are in the 30 feet range. Then sandbagging is needed. Some city streets start to close when the river is in the mid-20 feet range. It is all perspective when you are dealing with an ancient lake bed. Sounds like less than 4 million sandbags will be used this year. Hard to believe that is so 'doable'. We've heard yesterday the crazy river went up over four feet!!!

Will update as I can and try to get a fun update posted soon!
