Hello, July. Please slow down a bit!

We're wrapped up with orientation for a few weeks at NDSU.  Now it's time to dig out at work (and at home)!

Grace had a field trip to the zoo on Friday; Trav chaperoned and Carson helped out too.  It was a fun morning for all of them.  Carson had a birthday party that afternoon at Thunder Road.  We enjoyed a RedHawks game on Friday night - they won plus a great fireworks show followed the game.  We spent way too much on goodies at the game; oh well!  The kids loved all of the yummy combos.  Carson sang a lullaby for Grace on the way home in an attempt to get her to fall asleep (it was after 10:30 p.m., so both kids were wiped out).  After he hummed and sang a few bars of his made-up song, he commented that his song was "a little bit Beethoven, a little Mozart, and a little Bach."  Classical-music-loving Daddy couldn't have been happier!  Grace was quickly down and we have no doubt Carson's lullaby (not the fact she was exhausted) was the ticket to her slumber.

It was hot here on Saturday - we spent the better part of the afternoon at the pool.  It was great and we had two very tired-out kids by suppertime!

The kids' activities continue to keep us busy.  We've got a busy few weeks come up too - Fargo-Moorhead Street Fair is this week/weekend (not Trav's fav, so he won't be participating!) as well as Cully's Kids event (their foundation supports the kids' horse therapy program - Riding on Angels' Wings).

The following weekend is the wedding (Carson is ring bearer, Grace is a flower girl).  They are both getting excited about it.  Grace is absolutely in love with her dress and shoes.  She has a hair appointment for that morning - we were told to plan for at least an hour in 'the chair'.  I know she'll love every minute.  Her hair is getting so long and it is so fun to do things with, but I truly can't wait to take her in after the wedding and get it cut shorter - probably in a cute little-girl bob.  It'll be so much easier to take care of!  I sometimes think she crochets her hair during the day!  When she gets a bit older if she wants to grow it out again, she sure can...then she can help take care of it!

The next week we'll be gearing up for the Transplant Games.  Carson will be competing in bowling, the softball throw, the long jump and the 50 meter dash.  We'll also be doing some other fun activities in and around Madison for the stretch of time we're there.  We'll be gone a week for the Transplant Games - I know the week will fly by!  Once we get back I'm taking a couple more days off to spend with Trav and the kids.

The next few weeks in August will be fairly quiet for the kids and Trav.  With classes starting at NDSU and MState on August 23/24, our office starts getting busy in early August.  Somewhere in the next month I need to carve out a couple solid days to work on my dissertation as well.  Oh what I could do with a 48 hour day!!!

I'll leave with a comment from Carson.  It's so insightful and once again, we can learn so much from kids!  He told Trav this last week: "I can't wait for tomorrow, because tomorrow hasn't happened yet!".  Here's to a great tomorrow!

This was such a neat post -- I had to "take notes" so I would remember to comment on all of it. Hats off to Carson and his classical lulluby. I did lots of classical stuff on the piano; but now it's Uncle Paul who spends more time with it on the radio. I was amused with the thought of Grace "crocheting" her hair. I understand the thought. Granddaughter Katie used to (and probably still does) twist her hair around and around her finger when she was tired. This resulted in her actually tying knots in her hair; really tricky to get out. And I LOVE Carson's quote. If it's OK with you -- I might put it in a card or a wallhanging or both someday. Credit will be given to Carson, OF COURSE. Love, and LOTS of prayers. Auntie Diane
