Papa Chip arrived last Thursday evening for a cardiac check-up on Friday morning. He happened to wake up at about 3:30 early Friday morning. He walked from our spare bedroom (we have four bedrooms, 2 baths and the library upstairs) to the kids' bathroom and passed the stairway to the main floor. He noticed all of the lights were on downstairs.
Upon checking things out a bit more, he discovered Miss Grace was the only one awake. She had Carson's ipod (which we haven't told him) and once she saw Papa thought he needed to learn how to use the ipod. She had a snack out on the counter. She had also taken the ipod speakers out of the drawer and had those on the counter.
Clearly she was planning a party - ipod (music) and snacks?!? C'mon!
After Papa Chip admonished her to get back to bed, Daddy heard some of the ruckus downstairs and got the party girl back to bed. Took her a bit to settle down.
In the morning we took a look at what she had accomplished. We're guessing at most she was up 20 minutes. While a bit funny, the whole thing really scared us as Miss 'No Fear' could have just as easily gone outside.
When we returned from the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Friday night, Papa had a present for Grace. He commented "This isn't my first rodeo, Grace!", which she thought was kinda funny, but had no idea what he was really talking about.
He had installed a door alarm on her door. The receiver reaches 150 feet. We have it plugged in in our room, but we can move it anywhere we need to hear it.
We're sleeping a bit easier (this was the first time she'd ever gone downstairs - it's always been to come to our bed).
Perhaps the door alarm will stay in place for about 20 years. :-) During those teenage years we might add a window alarm too!

Oh my goodness! What a goofball! Clearly I need to spend some good party time with Grace!
Travis' Note: If anyone ever asks why I don't oil the door to garage the squeak of the hinges has warned me on more than one occasion that Gracie is escaping the house!
