Tricks or treats

We had a great Halloween weekend.  We spent part of Saturday at the local Children's Museum.  We renewed our membership after a bit of a lapse.  Although Carson is on the upper end of the age for enjoyment, Grace is definitely at the age where she loves to explore all of the exhibits.  Carson had a good time too and was a good sport to go.

On Sunday we enjoyed some of the beautiful fall weather and geared up for tricks or treats.  After we convinced Travis to leave the pumpkin patch while he waited for the Great Pumpkin (more on that in a bit), we dashed off to Grammy's house.  Carson was certain Grammy and Great Grandma would be witches again, so he was ready when the door opened.  Grace didn't recall the witchy antics of the last two years.  Grace's reaction to the "Witches of South Fargo" was priceless.  As Grammy cackled to come in, Grace reluctantly entered (but didn't take her eye of the escape-route door either).  Grammy asked for a hug, to which Grace shook her head 'no' in response.  Grace's eyes were wide and she wasn't quite sure what to do.  Even the walker-wheeling-witch (Great Grandma) scared Grace.  It wasn't long until Grammy took out her awful fake teeth and took off her witch-y hair and hat.  Grace soon realized who it was and smiled.  She thought it was pretty funny.  Thankfully, it wasn't hard to convince Grace to pose for a pic with Carson and the two scary witchy women.

Carson thought his costume of Darth Vader was great - his face was covered up so he didn't need to smile for pics.  Smart kid.

Grace loved her Minnie Mouse look - especially the sparkly red shoes we found to complete the outfit.  Several times on Halloween she wanted to be "Tinkerella" (a cross of Tinkerbell and Cinderella).  Sorry, no costume changes mid-way through the day, kiddo.

We stopped at a few more friends' places before heading home.  As we got home, Trav and the kids took off to trick-or-treat throughout the neighborhood.  I stayed home to give out goodies to the goblins.  The kids had a great time.  Carson is still convinced he got truly cheated out of Halloween last year (both kids had H1N1) so he was happy to get in on the action.  Grace doesn't remember Halloween from two years ago (and she really wasn't that into it), so this year was really her first year of enjoying it.  Trav reported she had a great time going from house to house and, as she shouted out "Happy Birthday!" a few times instead of "Trick or Treat!".

The kids celebrated their loot and were pretty excited about the candy extravaganza.  We're pretty sure visions of more than sugarplums danced in their heads on Sunday night!

We also enjoyed watching the Peanuts in "Charlie Brown's The Great Pumpkin".  It is so special to have our kids watch and enjoy these classic favs of ours.  When Trav shared with Carson "Dad and Mom watched these when we were little kids", Carson responded with "together?".  Too cute!  Next up, Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving special and then Charlie Brown's Christmas special and The Grinch!  We'll be watching those before we know it!
