Our 4th of July

We enjoyed some outside time on the 4th and did a bit of house cleaning. Grace took another 4+ hour nap (typical is 2 - 21/2 hours). We trekked over to Minnesota State University Moorhead for the fireworks show that evening. It started at 10:30, but we left home at about 9:30 to get settled in to a great spot. Once at MSUM, Carson and I went in search of some popcorn.

Once the show started, Carson was beside himself. Grace was quite scared at first and curled up in my lap under the blanket. She jumped at every 'boom'. Sensory things affect her differently, so we weren't sure how it would be (she was tucked in at Nana and Papa's house on Canada Day while Trav, Carson and I watched the fireworks). After about 10 minutes, she peeked out from under the blanket occasionally. She didn't get to a point that she was showing excitement, but I do think she enjoyed them a bit by the end of the 30 minute show. As long as she had control of the blanket and could cover herself up when she wanted, things were a bit better. She did clap a lot at the end...not sure if she did truly enjoy the end of the show or if she was just happy they were done.

By the time we got home, it was 11:30. We had two very tired kids. Another late night for the Kitch four!

Grace -- I remember your Grammy Ruthie hiding her face from fireworks in a blanket or Great Grandma's lap when she was about your age. Don't worry -- it should get better; but if you're like Uncle Paul -- you never really will truly like them.
