Yesterday was simply amazing.
Well, the rummage sale was pretty typical. It was the afternoon and evening that were amazing.
I met Trav and the kids at Newman Outdoor Field (where the local pro baseball team plays - the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks) for Cully's Kids Picnic. We got to meet Matt Cullen - NHL player for Carolina. He signed the kids' shirts and we had a great time with games, food and fun. He seemed very down to earth. He and his wife are very committed to kids' causes.
Next we dashed home to re-group and get on our way to Perham. We pulled over somewhere along Highway 10 for a family hug. :-)
We had a great time at the Make-A-Wish bike rally. Several of the organizers have jackets with the name of each wish kid embroidered on the jacket. There were tears of thanks and hugs too. Carson and another wish kid drew the raffle for several items. The winner of the 18-speed boys bike donated the bike to Carson!!! He was all smiles. Yeah, good thing we brought the Optima and not the minivan. Oh boy!
We showed pics from our trip and thanked so many people for all they had done to make Carson's wish come true. Carson even got to sit on the Harley that was given away with the 72 year-old winner. He thought that was pretty cool.
We won a silent action item of a night at a new hotel in Perham - a queen suite. We need to use it before January 2010, so we'll find a weekend to head down. Perham is a quaint little down, so I'm sure we'll find something to do!
When it was time to go, Carson was determined we were bringing the bike home with us. Keep in mind we also had Grace's stroller with us and we were in a mid-size car. With some fancy maneuvering by Daddy, the bike got in the backseat with the kids.
It was a very special day full of fun memories. We can't believe it has been a year since we learned about Grace's addition to our family! Such a blessed year it has been!
