The Impetigo Journey

With a whole bunch of medicine and prayers, we are hopeful our journey with impetigo will soon be a dead end.

After six rounds since July we have a plan! We met with an Pediatric Infectious Disease doctor last week - Dr. Nadia Sam-Agudu. She is at the 'other' hospital in town so we've never had the honor of meeting her. She was amazing. She asked so many questions to try to develop the big picture. She was wonderful with Grace too, who was a bit shy about stripping down to her panties.

After a lengthy consultation, she recommended our entire family (just the humans, not the cats, fish or snails) go through a 'decolonization'. For two weeks we have a specialty surgical soap that we are to use once/day as we bathe or shower - it needs to sit on our skin for a minute before rinsing so that is A LOT of fun with Grace! We are also using an antibiotic ointment that each of us has swirled up our noses twice a day for a week. Hopefully this will kill whatever is going on. Who knows if one of us is passing it to Grace, but we're not taking chances!

We also have a plan if Grace develops 'The Tigo' again - it needs to be cultured and she'd be put on a very specific antibiotic. Then we'd all do the decolonization plan again. Hopefully not necessary but it feels great to have a plan of action.

We're hoping 2010 is free of 'The Tigo'!!!!
