Carson and I had supper together on Tuesday night. He had been at Grammy's since we were doing the 'no staff juggle'. As we enjoyed our burger, chicken, fries and onion rings we had quite the conversation.
Carson: What is Papa Chip's last name?
Me: You know that - Horob.
Carson: Oh yeah - that's right. I like that last name.
Pause.
Carson: What is Grammy's last name?
Me: You know that too, Carson - Horob. Remember - Grammy and Papa Chip used to be married.
Carson: Oh yeah - that is funny!
(I nearly cracked up here, because as much as I love my parents, yes, it is a bit funny to picture them married - especially if you never knew them as 'married'!!!)
Me: You know that I used to have that last name too - I was 'Rhonda Kay Horob'.
Carson: Oh - yeah! Why did you change your name?
Me: Sometimes women do that when they get married. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they change it to be a combination of their last name and their new husband's last name. And sometimes the man changes his last name. There are many different ways to do this. Mommy chose to change her last name to be the same as Dad's.
Carson: Oh (as he looks off pensively).
Me: And you remember that Grace's last name used to be different (I just focused on her last name at this point). Remember when we went to court and the judge said Grace was in our family forever and changed her last name so she is a Kitch.
Carson: Oh YEAH! Now she'll be a 'Kitch' forever.
Me: Maybe or maybe not - depends on what Grace decides to do when she gets married.
Carson: I know - I'll marry Grace so then she will be 'Kitch' forever.
Me: Carson - that is very sweet, but there are rules against brothers and sisters getting married. I know you love each other, but you'll have to find other people to marry. (I stay away from the 'biology' talk here!!!).
Carson: (a bit deflated) Oh.
Pause and lots of thinking.
Carson: I know - I'll marry Brecken! (neighbor girl who has been his girlfriend for months now).
Me: Oh - when are you going to marry Brecken?
Carson: Hmmmm....(long pause) I'll have to ask Brecken.
Me: That's a good idea, Carson.
Carson: Yeah.
Me: Where are you two going to live?
Carson: (LONG PAUSE) I don't know, Mom, but the wedding will be at the same place Sherryse and Jeff got married this summer with the party at the same place too. Only we're going to have 1,000 people there and there will be ice cream for 1,000 people too.
Me: Wow - sounds like quite a wedding! What are you going to do for a job?
Carson: (LONG PAUSE) vacuum
Me: (holding back the giggles) Is that your job around the house?
Carson: Yep.
Me: Oh - that's great (Daddy does most of the vacuuming around our house - can you tell?!?). What are you going to do for work?
Carson: I'm going to work on the computer and look up things on the computer. I'll look up things for the White House.
Me: WOW!
Carson: Yeah, Mom, you know...for The President.
Me: Wow - that sounds like an important job!
Carson: Yeah.
Me: What will Brecken do?
Carson: She'll do the same work you do, Mom.
Me: That's wonderful, Carson. (insert smile here).
Carson: Yeah. I think I know when we are getting married. You, Dad and Grace can come.
Me: Oh, I'm glad we are invited!
Carson: Yeah. Our wedding is August 16, 2028.
Me: (I can hardly hold it in!) OH! I'll be sure to write that down.
Carson: Yep, Mom. Remember - there will be a lot of ice cream.
So, Wednesday, August 16, 2028 - mark your calendars, folks!!!

Ahahahaha! I LOVE this story! I also think it is funny that he chose Aug 16th considering that Jeff and I got married on Aug 15th. Oh Carson . . . what a hoot. I am thrilled that our wedding is "copy-worthy" for Carson. I am going to assume that this means he had a good time. :-)
I WILL save the date. You know, Rhonda, this actually COULD happen.
Love, Auntie Diane
I did the math...I'll be almost79 years old ! And, how old will YOU be, Rhonda ?
Ya know, Diane is right. Carson is JUST tenacious enough to make it happen! :)
If I know Carson at all, this will happen for sure. Maybe Sherryse and I should ask if we can be the flower girls? Oh my I love him so MUCH. What a doll.
