It's been a wonderful year

In the blink of an eye, the last year has flown by. Carson has matured so much and dare we say already showing some teenage tendencies (yearning for a cell phone - which isn't all that out of line since it is a great device for deaf/hard of hearing individuals to text anyone). He's had a great summer of activities and of course, got a girlfriend. Grace has transformed into a little 'big' girl. She's not quite a pre-schooler (thankfully) but she's less and less toddler-looking.

We can't believe it was just a year ago that we first laid eyes on Grace. We will never, ever forget waiting at the bottom of Ron and Jane's staircase for her as they brought her down. She was more beautiful than any pictures we had seen of her. She was a little angel with her brilliant blue eyes and big grin. Her eyes continue to be the first thing people typically notice about Grace. Hmmm...will this spell trouble in the teenage years as well? No worries; neither one of our kids will date before they are 30 years old. :)

As we held her in our arms, we couldn't believe we would be parents to this little sweetheart. She instantly melted our hearts. She was and continues to be the happiest child.

What was so extra-special about the 'transition week' of meeting Grace was not only our first meeting, but the next day when we brought Carson with to meet his new little sister. It was so powerful watching the two of them meet, connect and bond. They have an unspoken language they have developed and a connection no one else could imagine. God is the only one who could have created a masterpiece like their relationship. It truly was made and planned in heaven!

This past week was busy - Trav is making great progress in the development of two online courses - one for fall semester and another for spring. Carson had day camp Monday - Thursday. We also had Vacation Bible School Tuesday - Thursday evenings (and according to one 4 year old, I'm the 'art lady') so that kept us hopping. It was a fun week though too.

Grammy took Carson golfing again on Friday and he had a great time. He's quite the golfer.

Our 'forever family day' celebration on Saturday was nearly rained out. It was very foggy and kinda misty in the morning. We went to Wahpeton - we first had a picnic in a gazebo near the zoo (ducks and a swan nearly joined us!). Next we rode on the Prairie Rose Carousel - a beautifully restored wooden carousel and finally Chahinkapa Zoo. We got through everything shortly before the rain started to fall. We had hoped to tent out in the yard either Friday or Saturday night, but the weather didn't cooperate. It was a great day and we all had a fun time.

Since Grace didn't have a nap, it was early to bed. Carson and I went to Target and shopped for school supplies. He was so excited. Thankfully, school is about a month away from starting...I'm not ready! Carson is looking forward to it though. Grace will be sad to miss her brother again, but she'll soon find the routine of looking for the bus!

Today we packed up and went to Detroit Lakes to the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota adoption celebration picnic. Yummy food, bubbles, playground, pinata and games for the kids. Door prizes too and we came home with two great adoption kid books and four tickets to the Minnesota Science Museum. It was special to see Vicki, our dear social worker who guided us through so much with Grace. It was a beautiful day to enjoy outside.

Time to get organized for the week ahead. Busy week and will fill in as we can! :) I have posted more pics at our Shutterfly site. More need to be added, of course, but I'm not too far behind!!!

Big news this evening - Paityn is getting her liver tonight!!! Please keep her in your prayers, along with her amazing and precious donor family!
