We've had a great weekend.
For a bit Carson was trying to convince us he didn't need to go to school this year. It's not that he's not excited about second grade. Rather, he wanted to stay home with Grace. (Guess we're not capable caregivers!?!) He 'decided' he could go next year. After an in-depth conversation about the topic, he was finally satisfied with the fact that he had so much to learn this year and that all of his teachers needed him to be at school. Plus, he'll get to play with Grace after school and on weekends, so that helped as well. :)
Today was a beautiful day and the perfect day for an Adoption Picnic in Detroit Lakes sponsored by LSS. We were thrilled that Ron and Jane could join us. Grace lit up when she saw them. It was precious. A week ago they became foster parents once again. This time to a newborn little boy. With incredible honor, they asked if Carson wanted to name him. After a long visit about the situation, Carson chose the name "Noah", which is Carson's middle name. It's the perfect name for this little boy. He'll be joining his forever family soon and we were happy to meet him today too. It was a special afternoon and everyone had a wonderful time. All of the kids played - on the playground, with bubbles and with a few pinatas. The afternoon flew by.
We're back home now, both kiddos have had a bath or shower and Grace has been in bed for almost 40 minutes. She was one tired little girl! We're all not too far behind.
We will try to watch some of the closing ceremony for the Olympics. We'll record it too, just in case we fall asleep.
I'm heading in to work tomorrow, a bit on Wednesday and on Friday. It's the first week of classes and I have three new staff on my team. I've hardly seen them! Sounds like they are picking up on everything. Trav starts teaching on Tuesday and will teach every Tuesday and Thursday this fall. When I do head back to work later in September, I'm taking every Tuesday and Thursday off, so Grace will be with one of us the entire fall semester. I'm so thankful I've built up so much sick and vacation leave. Grace will likely qualify for respite care, so we'll look into that for Spring Semester.
We're excited that the plans have come together to have Grace's Affirmation of Baptism on Sunday, September 14 at our church. Will be a very special day. We are also planning a big party at our home for that afternoon - if you are interested in coming, email us at tandrkich@yahoo.com for more info. It'll be a celebration of family!
We've also been working on the details of the Make-A-Wish trip and trying to narrow down some sort of an itinerary. Can't believe it is less than three months away. Will be fun for us to have our first trip away from home as a family of four such a special and memorable one. Carson doesn't have a countdown going yet, but I'm sure he will soon.
I'll try to post more pics tomorrow. Now that I've figured out photobucket's slick way of doing it, I should be able to get more loaded and they will all be the correct orientation (unless you really like tipping your head to one side!).
Take care!
