A Second Grader!?!?!

It is official. We have a house of two thirty-somethings, an (almost) 18 month-old, two fuzzy kitties (one in his teens and the other approaching kitty teenage-ness) and a SECOND GRADER! Carson and I played a game last night and this morning - he gave me hugs as a not-yet second grader and when we got to school and picked him up tonight he gave me an official hug from an official second grader.

Second grade seems so big. As I was talking to my brother Corey yesterday, it IS big. It's a very big step up. You can certainly tell by the school supplies. Now a calculator and a large eraser are added to the list. And a lot of pencils. Hello more homework, as I know it is on its way. :)

Trav and I processed it last night and I think what really feels so 'big' for me about second grade is that I remember second grade. Very well. I remember quite a bit of first grade too (I didn't have kindergarten - country school!). But I really remember second grade. Perhaps that is why second grade seems so very grown up.

Carson adores his teacher. He said she is very nice and has 'good rules'. She is very organized and he likes that (wonder why!?!) He asked me after school what happens to kids that don't go to school (it is hard for him to imagine). He commented it would be sad because school is so fun. We hope that love of learning continues to be a love of learning for a lifetime!

Daddy was teaching all day today, so I got some good pics of the day to share with him.

Grace and I had a fun day. Although I'm not nearly the playmate that brother is. That was evident when she looked throughout the house for him about mid-morning. Well, she looked throughout the first floor. Satisfied she had swept the ground floor, she stood at the base of the steps to the second floor near the gate. She looked upstairs and proclaimed 'Brud-er!' That's when I knew I was no match. I did manage to distract her and soon her physical therapist was here. She had OT today as well, due to the holiday yesterday. That helped the day go by and she didn't have to be SO bored with Mama. :-)

We got a lot of rain last night - our yard is looking better and better. We should be in great shape by next spring!

That's all from here - we're thankful Gustav seemed to have spared so much of the Gulf Coast. Last we heard my Auntie Sue was on her way back home. Likely no power, so we're praying all is okay!

Hey guys,
Before I'd even read the paragraph about your remembering second grade, I was thinking of us, Rhonda. I, too, remember second grade with Mrs. DeVries and how we felt like the "big kids" in that classroom at Round Prairie, though I'm quite certain we weren't asked to bring calculators! Glad to hear the day went well, and that you capably took care of Grace while Bruder was at school. ;)
Take Care...
