A healthy and blessed Christmas

Last year found Carson very sick with pneumonia on Christmas, so we were thankful for two healthy kids this year. Okay, so Grace did have impetigo, but it certainly didn't affect her present-opening ability. Or as Grace says "Ti-go"...more on that in a bit.

We enjoyed Christmas Eve day - our tradition is to do appetizers (and a bunch of them!) for supper. Grace had a very late nap so we didn't get to church on Christmas Eve. At that point our plan was for Christmas Day. Mother Nature had other plans...

I tried out some new recipes - bacon wrapped chicken poppers (marinated in soy sauce, garlic and marmalade) and pepperoni pinwheels. We also had a warm cheese dip with beer bread, meatballs, and other finger foods. Yummy! Papa Chip arrived late on Tuesday night and Great Grandma and Grammy joined us. Great Grandma read the Christmas story when we were done with our meal. We open presents on Christmas Eve - the kids had a ball. We try the take-turns approach and it worked for a bit. Soon, 'it' all broke loose. We couldn't stop Great Grandma (I'm serious - she was worse than the kids!!!). It ended up being a gift-opening free-for-all. Carson got a bunch of Lego sets and Grace got a dollhouse. They also both got clothes and books too, along with some gift cards and money.

Once of the last gifts the kids opened was The Night Before Christmas recorded by Papa Ron and Nana Jane. If you haven't seen these, they are so much fun! As we paged though the book and listened to Papa tell the story we got to a page with Santa (also known as "Mansa" to Grace) and a reindeer on a rooftop. Of course, we all know the popular reindeer. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Donder, Blitzen and good ol' Rudolph. But there is a reindeer that doesn't get to play in any reindeer games due to a staph infection. Yep, Grace announced that the lone reindeer on the rooftop with Santa was "Ti-go". You know...Impetigo the Reindeer? And Rudolph thinks that other reindeer laugh and call HIM names!?!?!

We laughed so hard and couldn't believe it. But it was true. That is what she believes that reindeer's name is. Now each Christmas we'll be thinking of poor Ti-go the Reindeer and his antibiotics and ointment treatments.

It was hard to get the kids to settle down for bed. You'd think Santa was coming or something!?!? We set out cookies and milk and Carson wrote a note to Santa. There were tears from Carson as we talked about Casper (our Elf on a Shelf) leaving to go back with Santa. We also tracked Santa on Norad's system.

Finally, by about 10:30 p.m. we got the kids to bed. We were soon to follow...we hoped Santa would fill our stockings too - we'd been good this year and we know that Santa doesn't stop if you are awake!
