We trekked to the Cities on December 27. Our first stop was the Science Center in St. Paul. As always, we had a wonderful time exploring the exhibits. We got checked into RMH for the night and got settled in.
The next morning Carson had lab work at the Transplant Center. He did wonderfully. Then we were off to the Mall of America. The mall was absolutely insane (and I love malls). We've never seen it so crazy. We parked on level 6 of one of the parking ramps. Should have been our first sign that level 6 was the closest we could get. We grabbed some lunch and met up with Sherryse. We were so excited to see her!
The lines for rides were the longest we've ever seen. We're not sure what the combo was, as we've been at MOA over break many times and we've never seen it like that day. Both Carson and Grace had a a ball - they were both born to ride rollercoasters! Sherryse and Grace went on a small one and Grace would have ridden many times had the wait not been so long. Carson and Sherryse waited (and waited and waited) for the ropes and gangplanks attraction. Carson was up less than 10 minutes when he decided he wasn't crazy about heights. This was to the delight of Sherryse! Too bad he didn't figure that out over an hour earlier! Two rounds on the log chute made up for it with Carson (and he delighted in seeing Sherryse all wet). We wrapped up the day with a trip to the Lego Store for Carson and Build-A-Bear for Grace. After nearly 8 hours at the mall, we were all looking for a quiet place! We got back to RMH just in time to enjoy the visiting therapy dogs.
Wednesday morning dawned and soon Carson and I were off to the hospital. Daddy and Grace stayed back at RMH - we knew the waiting would be hard for Grace (and thank goodness for text messaging). We got settled in and Carson played his DS as well as a special Nintendo that is just available in hospitals - it is a tv with Wii remotes and a bunch of pre-loaded Wii games. As he moved from activity to activity, I started to wonder if he would want to ever leave.
Soon it was time for the biopsy. I was able to stay with Carson until he was under. The whole procedure took less than 10 minutes and then I was back with him. He slept for quite a while and then we watched movies and played on his DS. He ate well and we waited patiently to leave. Soon it was time; Daddy and Grace met us at the front door and we rolled out of town.
We heard about the awful storm that was on the way from the west - we wanted to beat it home. We were so sad, as we planned to stay at Nana and Papa's house that night and go home the next day. The storm changed our plans. We did stop for a few hours and had a special visit with Nana, Papa and their little Honey, Honey. The time passed much too fast. Soon we were heading west again. We arrived home after supper and got unpacked and ready for the storm. It hit that night - first with rain and with lots of snow and wind to follow. We're thankful we weren't driving it in. For the next several days, many roads were closed.
