Boys versus girls

Carson started with a slight cough on Friday. Yesterday it was a nuisance, but not awful; far from it. Last night at 6:00 I thought he looked a little flushed. Sure enough, he had a temp of 101.9. Off to the ER he and I went (and we picked up Grammy along the way). Dr. thought he sounded fine...no crackle in his lungs. Still ordered urine & blood tests as well as an x-ray to be sure. All of that was done in less than a hour!!! The dr. couldn't believe it when he saw a small spot of pneumonia on his one lung. Apparently, Carson is in the very, very early stages. The dr. thinks it is very unlikely Trav gave this to Carson. He has several reasons why and they are sound. Carson did tell me he was playing with friends at school who were coughing...so who knows!?! Anyway, a week of meds was ordered.

While we were there, Carson gave us several giggles. I commented to him that we hadn't been to the ER for quite some time. He reminded me we were there on January 4, 2008 when he was throwing up so badly. Sure enough, he was right. How does he remember this stuff?

We also got to see Carson's very first doctor (and considering how many he's had, that is quite the honor). We credit Dr. Burns with the wisdom to send us to the Cities when Carson's liver functions were so perplexing when Carson was 5 weeks old. Dr. Burns moved from family care to the ER almost 7 years ago and thankfully he's been on duty quite a few times when we've been in the ER. It is wonderful to not have to start with the 'from birth' story. :-) Dr. Burns was in with another patient last night, so we had a different doctor (who was great too). When Dr. Burns realized Carson was in, he stopped in and marvelled at how big Carson was getting. Always fun to see him!

So, no Sunday School Christmas program today. Carson was so sad. He even cried because he wouldn't be able to give his teacher her present (how sweet is that!?!). It has been a day of rest and we're all staying cozy inside, while the wind howls outside.

Grace has had a bit of a cold the past few days, but it seems to be getting better. So, we're in a race to see if she and I can avoid pneumonia and keep it within the 'boy' side of our family. There are just some things you don't want to share!

Ooh, I'm sending big hugs to you, Carson! I hope you are feeling better very soon and that your meds clear up your pneumonia faster than Superman! Your Sunday School teacher will be so excited to get one more gift after she's opened all her others--yours will be extra special. And tell your mommy and little sister to stay well, too! We are thinking of all of you and keeping you in our prayers! Love to you all....
