Trying to take it all in

Quite a few updates from the Kitch four:

Friday night was one of our date nights - dinner and a movie. We test drove a car before dinner and knew that we had found what we wanted and would make a trade. When we arrived home from the movie, Grace had a fever of 103! We got her fever down a bit and she got a little bit of sleep.

Saturday morning was very busy - got Grace in to the doc (with an immune-suppressed kid and an upcoming vaca we don't take chances). Her throat looks red - we're still waiting to see what the throat culture brings. When I told Grace we were going to see the doctor, she responded with "No, monkey bed!". Her favorite book and finger play right now is "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed"; of course, when "Mama calls the doctor, the doctor says 'No more monkeys jumping on the bed!'" It was too cute.

Carson and Trav cleaned up the Saturn and by the end of the day we had a 2008 Kia Optima with a little over 13,000 miles. We love it! Carson shed tears to see the Saturn go - he's so sentimental! Trav and I, on the other hand, were not sad to see it go. ;)

We had a neighborhood block party on Saturday evening. It was a lot of fun and someone had even arranged for a firetruck to stop by (with four firemen). The kids got to crawl around on the truck and when they left, the firemen started up the lights and sirens. By this point Grace was feeling pretty good, but was still pretty tired.

Father's Day dawned and we could tell it would be a rainy day - so much for the zoo or any other outside plans. We made a very Father's-Day-ish trip to Menards - picked up some plants and a shelf. While Grace took a three hour nap, we cleaned up in the storage room in the basement and got through a bunch of stuff. We had a picnic in the living room (we always picnic on Father's Day). For supper, we went to my Mom's and grilled. It was a special Father's Day for Trav to be with his two precious kids! Trav is an amazing father and I couldn't have found a more wonderful Daddy to our two kids. I'm so glad you asked me on a date nearly 18 years ago, Trav!

Carson had golf and baseball yesterday and had a great time at both. He had a great hit at baseball. Grace seems to have turned the corner with whatever bug she had. We hope it is gone for good!

Busy week - teaching, orientation, labs tomorrow night for Carson, Great Grandma's 97th birthday on Thursday and we're leaving Friday night. So, that means packing needs to happen somewhere in there too!

Please keep Morgan's family in your prayers - Morgan lost her battle with cancer yesterday morning. She just turned 8 a little over a week ago. She's a cousin of mine on my mom's side of the family. This is a very special family and they have amazing courage. Cancer sucks, plain and simple. I still have a hard time with why kids have to experience sickness and why parents have to plan funerals for their little angels. Not how it is supposed to be.

With a heavy heart, please lift this family up in your prayers.
