The Fargo-Moorhead area is under crisis conditions. Classes have been cancelled at all colleges and universities (NDSU has cancelled classes until further notice) so students, faculty and staff can assist with the flood fight. As of now, it looks like the mighty Red River of the North will crest in this area on Thursday-Friday in a range of 39-41 feet (the Red crested at 39.57 feet in 1997, flood stage is 18 feet).
We are quite confident we'll be okay from a river water/overland flooding standpoint. We're getting more nervous about the potential of sewer back-up and lift stations failing in our area. Many in our area have such critical issues they are dealing with. Last I heard, 2.5 million sandbags are being prepped in the Fargo fight alone.
Travis is in the final stages of installing a sump pump with battery back-up next to our sump pump (which is running nearly non-stop). Just needs a few more parts - should be done later tonight or tomorrow. Done quite a bit of calling today to try to find plugs for the toilet and floor drain in the basement - none are found in our area. We've looked as far out as Fergus Falls, Alexandria and St. Cloud for plugs and the major box stores are out. We have a 'Plan B' that we are checking into tonight. If we can plug everything in the basement (floor drain, toilet, sink and tub/shower plumbing) we'll feel quite a bit better.
We have stocked up on food, going to stock up on water tonight. Going to try to do some laundry tonight as that might be the last of laundry for a bit. Many communities in our area are already asked to limit their water use.
On top of this, Carson is running a temp of 101, so off to the dr. tonight. I'm suspecting an ear infection. Hopefully not viral. I hate viral stuff! He missed the morning of school today, but rested a lot and felt well enough to go this afternoon. Hopefully a night of good rest will be in store, as he did not sleep well last night. So far, Travis and Grace continue to stay healthy.
Stay tuned - we'll keep you posted on how we're doing! I know we've received a few emails in the past week or so - it's been hopping and will continue to. We're not ignoring you - just hang with us!
