Elmo, Cinderella, Yep!

Grace's vocabulary is exploding. She copies everything we say. We didn't have this stage with Carson. With his level & degree of hearing loss, it was all very different. Mimicking was much more intentional for him - he watches facial expressions, sometimes feels our vocal cords and really needs to concentrate. We love when he gets a new sound - it's awesome! He works so hard and his speech is amazing - particularly considering his degree of hearing loss.

Miss Grace - well, she's a hoot with this speech stuff. She babbles and sings all of the time. It's adorable. It's these sounds we treasure, knowing they won't last forever.

And she will copy anything we say. Then she'll throw in some of her own words for good measure. We had been trying to track her words and signs from a few months ago; well, we threw in the towel. We got to that point with Carson too when he was younger. It was impossible to keep up. That's a great thing!!!

So, here's a typical visit with Grace: "Hello! Elmo! (babble) Obama! Elmo! Baby! Hi! (babble) Yep! Elmo! Rella! (Cinderella) Obama! (babble) Pretties! Milk, please! Elmo! Bye, bye!"

Her facial expressions remind me of Carson - there is no question that she 'gets' that sign language is about facial expression as well. I could watch expressions from both kids for forever. They make me laugh and cry.

Tonight we called Nana and Papa Brown to show off some of Grace's new words. She loves the phone now too. It was so fun to hear her. Her speech is awesome and so clear. "Nana" and "Papa" are clear words too. We'll have to share with Nana and Papa Kitch, Grammy and Papa Chip next!

So, here's to Elmo, Rella and Yep!
